The evening
The Grandview in Poughkeepsie hosted a wedding on July 4, 2026, and the evening kept a calm, conversational pace. Guests spent much of the reception talking at their tables and waiting for the main moments: toasts from the parents and siblings of the couple, and the first dance.
Two artists worked five hours and completed 120 portraits. The sketching table fit the rhythm of the night well, with guests drifting over between speeches and the line picking up again after each one.
The couple added another interactive touch alongside the sketches: an audio guestbook telephone where guests could pick up the receiver and leave a recorded message for the newlyweds. The couple and the parents on both sides said they were very pleased with how the evening went.
