Wedding at Adler Planetarium, Chicago

Adler Planetarium hosted a wedding on August 23, 2026, with the reception lit almost entirely by candles. The museum sits on the lakefront, so guests had the Chicago skyline on one side and Lake Michigan on the other for the whole evening.

Three artists sketched through the reception and completed 107 portraits. Friends and family lined up between dinner and dancing, and most guests took their sketch back to the table to compare with the people they came with.

The candlelight suited the room and the crowd was in a good mood from the start. A planetarium is an unusual choice for a wedding, and it worked well: plenty of open floor, a dramatic view, and a setting guests were still talking about at the end of the night.
